Please join the Wharton Alumni Club as they welcome Anthony and Olive Hamilton Russell for a virtual wine tasting. Anthony and Olive are the owners of HAMILTON RUSSELL VINEYARDS and SOUTHERN RIGHT in South Africa.  Anthony is a Wharton Alumnus (WG90).

Date: Thursday, November 11, 2021

Time: 6:00 pm

Anthony and Olive will discuss their award-winning vineyards and then guide us through a tasting of a few of their wines.  The wines can be ordered and delivered to your house before the tasting.

We suggest Gary's Wine and Marketplace (links and wines below), as they have great prices.  You may also purchase them at PLCB stores.

We invite the participants to purchase one or all four of the wines that we will be tasting, in the below order, in conjunction to chatting about South Africa and Hamilton Russell Vineyards and Southern Right Vineyard.  There is also a link below to buy the bundle of the four wines that will be tasted:

Hamilton Russell Vineyards Pinot Noir 2020

Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay 2020

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator
“Today the winery (Hamilton Russell Vineyards) is one of the most recognized brands in the U.S. market, and rightfully so, as it has become the flag bearer for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from South Africa.”

Jay McInerney, Author and wine writer, New York
“Few outside of Burgundy have mastered the nuances of Pinot or learned to tame it. Hamilton Russell is among the few great New World Pinots – suggestive of Burgundy and yet utterly itself.”

Andrew McNamara, Master Sommelier, Florida
"I have always thought of their Pinot noir as iconic - a true example of what Pinot noir can be. It will always have a place in my heart as the first great South African wine I ever had - and it continues to show the world what Pinot noir can be."

Southern Right Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Southern Right Pinotage 2020

93 Points, Tim Atkin MW
I might be getting older, but is this really the 25th vintage of the Southern Right Pinotage? If so, it's one of the best yet.

92 Tim Atkin MW, South African Report 2021
A small portion of this impressive, well-priced Sauvignon Blanc sees oak, but it's focused on other flavours. Savoury, sappy and salty, with elderflower and grapefruit notes, lovely precision and a textured, bone-dry finish.
