The Wharton Alumni Club has been invited to an event at the newly renovated Boyds Philadelphia store. Boyds is a 4th generation family-run luxury department store, a staple in the City of Brotherly Love since its founding in 1938. Boyds recently celebrated the completion of a $10 million renovation project on December 13, 2018.
A member of Gushner family will discuss their vision for their newly renovated store.
“The whole concept is marrying this beautiful old world building with new modern architecture,” said Alex Gushner, the fourth generation of the family-owned Boyds. The changes reflect on the newest chapter of the history of Boyds itself, he said. It’s about "taking a business that has a lot of history and heritage in the city of Philadelphia and bringing it into the future.”
The changes are striking. Gone is the split marble staircase, its lower half replaced with a more modern structure. The largest changes center on the women’s department being moved from the 3rd to the 1st floor.
Light food with beer and wine will be served
