Chef Michele Haines – The Spring Mill Cafe
Chef Haines and her son Ezra Matthew Haines, co-own The Spring Mill Café in Conshohocken. From the very beginning she has tried to make the Café into an institution that is involved with the various communities in which it thrives. They have developed or participated in fund-raising events for causes such as Friends Without A Border, the Lupus Foundation, ActionAIDS and Doctors Without Borders. They have staged educational events ranging from a dinner discussion about Charles de Gaulle sponsored by the World Affairs Council, to nature hikes through Morris Arboretum.
She is personally intrigued by the links between literature and food. The Café has held special literary evenings that feature menus related to authors from many different cultures accompanied by readings from their works. Recent examples include: Georges Sand, Virginia Woolf, Marcel Proust and James Joyce.
Come and enjoy her love of food and life… (www.springmill.com)
Heinz Volquarts - ViNo Bliss
Heinz is the perfect person to pair tonight’s dinner with his exquisite wines. He represents Loire, France where Chef Haines is from and some family still remain, including some who have vineyards of their own, as well as being part of our Wharton family. But then again, many say, everyone is related over a bountiful glass of wine.
ViNo Bliss, LLC, boutique importer of small-production wines from Europe, is a partnership between three wine enthusiasts. “We have no timeline, and our sole agenda is to have fun and continue to scour the landscape for producers who are passionate and skillful in their craft of making high-quality wines.”
ViNo Bliss currently represents sparkling, white, and red boutique wines from the Loire Valley in France in Pennsylvania, New York and Ontario, Canada. We offer a very special thank you for Heinz’s generous gift. (www.vinobliss.com)
