March 23rd: STEP BY STEP:  CREATE A PROFESSIONAL RESUME THAT GETS RESULTS

One of the biggest challenges of job hunting involves writing your resume. If you poke around the Internet, or talk to half a dozen career advisors, you'll get at least half a dozen different opinions on "what makes a good resume." This presentation focuses on using your resume as a marketing tool. Your resume has to do more than introduce you to prospective employers. You need to communicate your skills, establish yourself as easy to work with, demonstrate credibility, and most of all, convince your reader that you're the best candidate for this particular job.

In this dynamic presentation, Marty and Dan will demonstrate the basics of resume writing for mid-career professionals and executives. They will offer tips and guidance for challenging situations, such as making a radical career change, explaining out-of-work gaps, moving from self-employment to corporate, and of course deciding how to avoid the "overqualified" trap.

If you'd like to volunteer your resume for a makeover and example, please send a message to [email protected] with your resume draft. You will need to be on the call to qualify.

Speakers:

Martin (Marty) Schneider believes everyone deserves to feel rewarded and valued at work. After working in corporate HR for several years earning the SHRM-CP designation, he realized many talented professionals were not getting past his own department. They had the tools for success but not the tools for job hunting and career change. Marty founded his own company, JobHunters, to help those talented executives and professionals find meaningful, satisfying careers. He helps clients feel empowered during the job search process and move more quickly to get hired.

Dan Ludwig became interested in resume writing when he served as Communications Manager for a resume company, ResumeToInterview. Dan has been a corporate copywriter, senior copywriter and freelance copywriter. He complements Marty's HR background with a focus on messaging and wordsmithing. Dan sees resumes as a marketing tool. He encourages clients to take charge of their resumes and not buy into myths or clichés.
