Join the Wharton Club of Philly Alumni Networking Meeting (virtually) on January 10th, 2023!

Be sure to register early for this event. Registration closes December 20th, earlier than normal, to ensure full participation.

We are changing up the agenda for January to support members in kicking off the new year strong – with a bit of a twist. Following the success of Ring of Reciprocity (RoR*) events across the country, we would like to offer something similar to the 30,000+ alums of the Wharton Alumni Association of Philadelphia.

Like a Ring of Reciprocity event, all participants will post a request into a Google Sheets document. To ensure that there is ample time to respond to all requests and implement suggestions, we are asking everyone to submit their requests by Tuesday December 20th. Responses can be submitted until Tuesday January 3rd, 2023.

Join us live on Tuesday January 10th, 2023, at 7:30 AM ET – 9:00 AM ET to review requests, share outcomes of suggestions implemented and ask follow-up questions.

To maintain trust and confidentiality, only registrants will be given access to the spreadsheet. We ask that you please do not share the link or the contents of the sheet with anyone unless you are doing so within the confines of providing a resource for someone.

Please see below for additional details on how to formulate your request as well as sample requests.

YOU MUST Register in Advance to attend!

About the Wharton Alumni Networking Meeting
The Wharton Alumni Networking meeting provides Club members with a means of establishing helpful business connections and relationships and learning more about each other’s work and businesses. This, in turn, helps members explore and determine ways in which they can be of assistance to each other, in terms of business leads, introductions, and referrals.  After each event, all attendees will receive the contact information shared during registration as a means for you to follow up on your connections made online.

Date: Tuesday January 10, 2022
Time: 7:30 to 9:00 AM ET
Wharton Club Members - Free
Non-members - $20
Location: Zoom
Details to be shared on email once you have registered.

Please note: Registration will close at 5:00 PM ET on Tuesday December 20, 2022. There can be no exceptions to ensure full participation.

*About Wharton Ring of Reciprocity Events

What is the Ring of Reciprocity? The Ring of Reciprocity created by Wayne Baker, Cheryl Baker, and Adam Grant is the idea of both “asking for” and “giving help” to create a culture of giving. During Ring of Reciprocity events, participants express an area where support is needed. In return, the group volunteer their support. Participants are encouraged to support in small realistic ways such as making an introduction, etc. This is an opportunity to work the power of the Wharton Network in an effective, efficient manner while having fun and supporting one another!

Some examples of areas where you may “ask for” support, or can “give help” to a fellow alumnus:

  • help for your children regarding college or something else
  • seeking a mentor, or someone to help expand your skills / knowledge
  • fundraising support
  • leads for your business
  • employee referrals
  • career assistance
  • fellow alumni to be a sounding board for strategy or marketing ideas
  • speaking engagements

Ring Request Example, Joseph Wharton: BILT is an app that creates 3D animated interactive instructions viewable on a phone or tablet. I am interested in connecting to ANY manufacturers or retailers who sell products with assembly or installation instructions (e.g., IKEA). Our current customers include Weber Grills, Home Depot.

Note: The more specific the request, the better! Rather than saying “Our club needs help attracting young alumni,” try “I would like an idea for an event that has been successful for your club in attracting young alumni.”

Interested in learning more about the philosophy behind the Ring of Reciprocity? The first chapter of Adam Grant’s book Give and Take is available for free online and will cover the basic principles. Expect this read to take 20-30 minutes.
