BIO - Scott Proefrock, Assistant GM, Philadelphia Phillies

Scott Proefrock joined the Phillies on November 17, 2008 as Assistant General Manager.

In his role with the Phillies, he interprets the Major League Rules and Basic Agreement with the MLB Players Association and assists in trades, free agent acquisitions, arbitration and contract negotiations, along with player development and scouting.

Before being hired in Philadelphia, Scott worked for the Baltimore Orioles as the director of baseball administration for three years (2006-08), where – in addition to many of the same roles he has with the Phillies – he coordinated the team’s baseball data system and prepared the Baseball Operations budget. Prior to joining the Orioles, he spent 11 seasons in a similar capacity with the Tampa Bay Rays, which he joined as director of baseball administration on July 27, 1995, only four months after the franchise was awarded and two and a half years before the organization would field a major league team. Scott was promoted to assistant general manager of the Rays in January 1997.

Scott began his baseball career as a marketing intern with the Pittsburgh Pirates in August 1987. He was hired by the Pirates as director of marketing information systems in November 1987 and moved over to scouting and player development assistant in December 1989. A year later, he went to the Atlanta Braves and spent five years there in scouting and player development capacities, the last as assistant director for scouting and player development, before joining the Rays.

Born on April 7, 1960, in Dayton, Ohio, Scott was raised in Norwood, Mass., and Rochester, N.Y. He graduated from The College of William & Mary before earning a master’s degree in sports management from the University of Massachusetts. He is also a certified public accountant.

Scott and his wife, K.K., a native of Wilmington, Del., live in Phoenix, Md., with their five children, Casey, Megan, John, Kate and Charlotte.
