Presentation by Gary Sorin: “Corporate Environmental Sustainability - Updates and Trends”
Presentation Preface
There’s a lot happening out there. 2008 brought a wave of momentum for “greening” corporate America,
and then an economic tsunami for which we were not prepared. So what happens now? Well, let’s back
up. What is this topic all about in the first place? Is it sustainability, environmental sustainability,
corporate responsibility, or green business? A lot of language and concepts are being thrown around,
many without common agreement on their scope or definition: greenwashing, externalities, carbon
trading, carbon footprint, clean energy, cradle to cradle; and the list goes on. This presentation will
provide a summary of concepts, along with a perspective on what’s been happening and where we’re
headed with corporate sustainability. It will also be interactive, in support of one of the key premises
of the discussion: there are no experts on the full breadth of this topic; we are all learning pieces from
each other as it evolves.
